Concrete Services in Omaha, NE
Driveways, patios, sidewalks, garage floors, foundation repair, and more — poured and finished right by a family contractor with 80+ years of experience.
What We Do
Concrete That Holds Up to Nebraska Winters
Concrete is one of the most durable materials available for driveways, patios, sidewalks, and structural applications — but only when it's installed correctly. The Omaha area's freeze-thaw cycles are particularly hard on concrete, and work that cuts corners on base preparation, mix design, or joint placement tends to fail within a few years.
At Markuson Construction, we've been pouring and repairing concrete in the Omaha and Council Bluffs area for over 80 years. We prepare the base properly, use appropriate concrete mixes for the application, reinforce correctly, and cut control joints where they're needed. The result is concrete that performs the way it's supposed to — for decades, not just a few seasons.
We work on residential and commercial projects of all sizes, from single-car driveways and backyard patios to parking lots and structural foundation repairs. Every job gets the same attention to base prep and installation detail, regardless of size.

Why Choose Us
What Sets Our Concrete Work Apart
Proper Base Preparation
We never skip base prep. Compacted gravel sub-base is the foundation of long-lasting concrete. We do it right the first time so you don't have to redo it in five years.
Correct Reinforcement
We use rebar, wire mesh, or fiber reinforcement as appropriate for each application. Reinforcement is placed correctly — not just tossed in the mix.
Control Joints Placed Correctly
Control joints are cut or formed at the right spacing and depth to direct cracking where it won't matter. This is one of the most overlooked factors in concrete longevity.
80+ Years of Local Experience
We know how Nebraska winters affect concrete and we account for it in every pour — from mix design to curing practices.
How It Works
Our Concrete Process
Free On-Site Estimate
We visit your property, assess the project, and give you a detailed written estimate. We measure the area, evaluate existing conditions, and discuss your goals before quoting.
Demo & Excavation (if needed)
For replacement projects, we remove the existing concrete and excavate to the proper depth. We haul away all debris and leave the site clean before pouring begins.
Base Preparation
We install and compact the gravel sub-base to the appropriate depth and grade. This step is non-negotiable — it's what separates concrete that lasts from concrete that doesn't.
Forming, Reinforcement & Pour
We set forms to the correct grade, install reinforcement, and pour concrete with attention to consistency and finish. We work efficiently to ensure proper consolidation before the concrete sets.
Finishing & Curing
We finish the surface to the specified texture, cut control joints at the correct spacing, and apply curing compound to protect the concrete during the initial cure period.

Common Questions
Concrete Services FAQ
For residential driveways in Nebraska, we typically pour concrete at 4 inches thick for standard vehicles, and 5–6 inches for areas that will see heavier vehicles like trucks or RVs. Proper base preparation — including compacted gravel sub-base — is just as important as thickness for long-term performance.
A properly installed concrete driveway in the Omaha area should last 30–50 years with reasonable maintenance. Key factors include proper base preparation, appropriate concrete mix, correct reinforcement, proper joint placement to control cracking, and sealing every few years.
It depends on the extent and type of damage. Surface cracks and minor spalling can often be repaired. However, if the slab has significant structural cracking, heaving, or has settled unevenly, replacement is usually more cost-effective in the long run. We assess each situation honestly and recommend the approach that makes the most sense for your project.
Spring through fall (April–October) is ideal. Concrete needs temperatures above 50°F to cure properly. We can pour in cooler weather with appropriate cold-weather concrete practices, but we recommend avoiding pours when temperatures are expected to drop below freezing within the first 24–48 hours.
Yes. We use appropriate reinforcement for each application. Driveways and structural slabs typically get rebar. Patios and sidewalks may use wire mesh or fiber reinforcement depending on the application. We discuss reinforcement options with you during the estimate process.
